Before Your Test
Take this test after any symptoms of short term illness have settled.
If you are taking biotin supplements, stop taking these 72 hours before the test.
Take this test as close to 9am as possible.
You do not need to fast for this test, but avoid fatty foods for 8 hours before the test.
Hormonal contraception will interfere with this test so ideally pause this and use a barrier method before taking this test.
For women, this test is best taken between days 2 and 5 of your cycle (with day 1 being the first day of your period). If you do not have periods, then take the test at any time.
If you are taking corticosteroid medication, the cortisol test will be difficult to interpret but do not stop taking this medication without speaking to your doctor first.
If you are exercising heavily generally or just before the test, please be aware that the CK value can be affected and may be elevated. Cycling or running to the test centre (or doing the home kits after the morning run, for example, is generally fine, however more strenuous or professional gym workouts can affect the Creatine Kinase marker.
Clinic appointment - how to prepare for the Ultimate Performance Blood Test
If you are coming into one of our clinics for the test, this is what you need to do before you arrive:
Read the instructions in the SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS section
Drink plenty of water about an hour before the appointment.
Avoid coffee/tea/energy drinks. Water is good!
That’s it! We’ll do the rest.
Home test kit - how it works with the Ultimate Performance Blood Test
Our blood test kits are simple and convenient.
The most important step in doing a blood test at home is to read the instructions very carefully. The process is very simple, but there are a few pitfalls you need to be aware of - you will save yourself a lot of time if you do it right the first time around!
Full printed instructions will arrive with your kit - please read them carefully.
Drink plenty before taking the sample and warm your hands up in the sink with warm water for a few minutes. This will make your blood flow much better.
Fill the tubes to the top line. We don’t need much blood; filling tubes to the top line is about 15 drops of blood.
Post the samples on the same day you take them, before midday, Monday to Thursday. If you post it any other time it might get to us late or be stuck at a sorting office over the weekend. You will then have to do it again.
Package the sample in the same box the kit came in. Otherwise, Royal Mail or DPD will reject it. The sample tubes go into a pouch, then into a cardboard box, and then into a return envelope. All of this is provided in the kit: please use it.
We look forward to receiving your sample in our lab!

Home Kit VS Clinique Appointment
We recommend a clinic visit for this test, rather than finger prick, as this is a large panel and requires more blood than most panels. It is available as a home kit, however, if you don't bleed very well from your fingers, it will be a struggle.
We have clinics nationwide, we recommend you come to the clinic for this test if possible. If not - please follow the instructions carefully (and warm your hands up!).
There are also some minor exclusions that apply to the Full Blood Count in the home kit version of this test, please see below.
HOME KIT EXCLUSIONS AND INFORMATION
HOME KIT EXCLUSIONS AND INFORMATION *
Less common Full Blood Count or clinically significant markers (marked with * symbol) are not reported in Capillary/Home kit samples due to their instability or large volume required. If you need these markers or are undergoing a particular FBC investigation and need these specific markers for your GP, we advise you to come to one of our clinics for a venous sample. We routinely report these markers in venous samples.
Platelets Count (PLT) in home kits is usually reported, providing the blood has no clots.
We recommend a clinic visit for this test, as it's quite a large panel.
TURNAROUND TIME
We are extremely fast, with some results available within hours and others within a working day or less, from the time your sample is in our lab. However, this is not a guarantee and should not be taken as such. This is the guideline turnaround time that can be shorter or longer.
THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEED TURNAROUND TIME.
We are extremely proud of our very short turnaround times and very efficient laboratory processes; you will receive your results as soon as they are available and have completed clinical validation.
Whilst we accommodate the shortest time scales, with some results available within hours, for some tests the turnaround time is 1-3 working days.

FAQS
Can I see a GP to discuss my Results?
Yes, usually the same or next day.
Our fantastic partner clinical team of consultants and GPs. Once you have your results, you can book an online video consultation to discuss your results.
Our clinical team consists of practicing NHS and private GPs, who work closely with our laboratory and can tell you what your blood test results mean for you. Having an integrated laboratory and GP services makes your health journey seamless and extremely efficient.
This service is not included in the price of the test, it is charged separately, should you wish to book it.
Will I have a general explanation of my results?
Yes, our doctors put a huge amount of effort into your online Health Dashboard, which will have explanations of what each biomarker is, the normal reference ranges and what it means if you are outside of them.
Why does that test have to be taken at 9am?
Levels of cortisol change throughout the day but they peak at around 9am. For this reason, we always check cortisol at this time, so that we can accurately interpret your levels against the lab reference range.
What is HbA1c?
HbA1c (sometimes known as glycated haemoglobin) is a measure of the proportion of haemoglobin that is bound to sugar. Because the lifespan of red blood cells that contain haemoglobin is about 3 months, this test tells us your average blood sugar in the last 3 months. It is a good test for diagnosing diabetes and pre-diabetes as well as monitoring diabetes.
I’m a woman, why are you checking testosterone levels?
Although usually considered a ‘male’ hormone, women also produce testosterone in small but important amounts. Excess testosterone levels may be found in conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. There is also increasing interest in the role of low testosterone levels in menopausal symptoms.

"Recently, I had a blood test for hormones and was absolutely impressed with the service. Upon arrival, I was immediately offered water, and the studio was bright, beautiful, and Instagram-worthy. The specialist greeted me, helped me fill out the form, answered my questions, and reassured me that everything would be quick and painless — and it truly was! The atmosphere felt more like a spa than a medical procedure. Just a few days later, I received detailed results for each test and was offered a consultation with a doctor to review and explain them. I love how the service supports you from start to finish. The staff were attentive, friendly, and caring. Highly recommend!"
